Guidelines for Articles

We suggest to interview local actors, or to write about your personal experiences

We recommend a word count of 1500 words, but be concise! Less is more, you do not need to reach a specific count

Base your article on an existing or historical project related to local development, the environment, climate change, circular economy, sustainability, humanitarianism, community development

Write in English, but know that we can provide some translation services, and that we will check the spelling and grammar for you

Provide some sources for statistics and data, but a general bibliography is optional

Write in an engaging and journalistic style

Try to make it accessible to everyday people, not using too much academic language

This isn’t an academic essay, you should write “I think”, “I did”, rather than “the author”

You can sign your full name, or “Anonymous” if you prefer to not associate your name with the work

Write with the active voice, not the passive – more information here: Active vs. Passive Voice: What's the Difference? | Grammarly

No content written by ChatGPT or other similar programmes - it's your words that we want! If you use it for translation purposes, please let us know

Guidelines for images

Pictures must be within copyright - possibly taken yourself or requested from the subjects (asking for permission to publish)

If it is really impossible to obtain images from the subject, they must be taken from copyright-free sources, like Pexels, Burst, Unsplash

Guidelines for sensitive issues

Treat subjects with respect and care, and be sensitive with the words you choose to describe them

Use content warnings at the beginning of the article if it deals with potentially offensive and sensitive issues, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, sexual violence, animal and child abuse, self-harm or suicide

Only use slurs and derogatory terminology when directly quoting a source that actively adds value to your writing

Read the articles below for more guidance on specific issues:
